Whats Weighing on You?

Sometimes we get in a funk because there are a number of problems or unfinished things bugging us. And at times we feel like certain problems just won't go away. It's amazing what getting a few of these things off your docket can do for lifting a heavy burden off your shoulders. Here are a few tips on how to get started.

Make a list of problems you wish were solved. I'm using the term, "problem," loosely. It can also be anything unfinished or irritating or anything that makes you unhappy.

Now, is there anything on your list you haven't gotten done because you haven't had time? You have several options. "Do it now," is great for items that will only take a short while to complete and you'll be glad you did. It's worth it to get these out of the way. Delegation can help you with other situations. Perhaps family members need to chip in, or it will be worth hiring a cleaning service, or you can contract a professional. Don't let it persist. And finally, don't forget it is okay to say no, and decide to take a few things off your list completely. You can give away unfinished craft projects or tell someone you need to that you have over-committed your time and need to pull out.

What items have been on your list for a long time? If any of them are waiting on another person to do their part, then it's time you find a way of getting it done without them or with someone else.

In other situations problems may persist because we have been resisting doing what needs to be done. Perhaps we don't like doing what we need to do, or, as is often the case in relationships, sometimes we have trouble admitting that it isn't working the way that things stand and larger change is needed. In other words, we're being stubborn because we keep doing things the same way. Problems can be solved but they can't always be solved to our liking or without an unpleasant period before it's resolved. Still, it is better to solve the problem and move on than to live with it continuously.

Prioritize the remainder of your list and figure out what it will take to address these concerns. Pick one item to deal with first and come up with a plan for dealing with it. And if all else fails, and it really is something that can't be solved, then learn to let go.
